Like White Rice for Morning Bread

For the pass two weeks I have been having my breakfast at one location.

Every morning I walk the street and see this...

Road leading to my work place

I crossed the road heading toward the coffee shop and I see this...

Lee Coffee Shop on the right @ Ban Hock Road

It's seem my breakfast dead in one corner. Most of my friends says Kuching is a ghost town for whatever they really mean.

Breakfast, I remember my mom would make coffee and white rice for my dad before he go to work. She does that every day till my dad received his next pay check so he could have a nice cracker or bread for a week. After a week everything come back to normal routine, black coffee and white rice. My heart ached every time I see my dad having low nutrient, not so tasteful meal every day. He provide the community by delivering soft drinks to all the coffee shop and super market.

10 years has passed and he's no longer with us yet the way Kuchingites having their morning breakfast haven't change a little. People still serving Laksa, Kolo Mee and black coffee all over the corner and it would stand still for the next 100 years!

For the next 100 years, Kuchingites will still keep paying and enjoy the same foods they eat everyday!

The Malay call it "Sambal Belacan" normally it was made from prawn.

I thought you’re staying in the city. Should have lot of car :D

Here you would see lot of car during working hours and after working hours.

During any celebration, the traffic would reduce up to 80%! 10 — 20 years ago… The road would so so very quite during Chinese New Year. (I miss those day)

Hi Netster. I liked seeing the pictures of the street. It looks very different from here. Very thoughtful and touching post you wrote about your parents. We always want the best for those we love, don’t we. Hope you have a good weekend. Hugs from Daisy.

Sometimes just the personal struggles we go through make depth– character inside us (makes the way for others to then identify). You paint your story and it helps me see something different (enriches) where we become identified on a level– helps others share their story too! Thanks–

Thank you Regina. You’re so sweet! I always learn from others… their hard, sweet and their success stories to motivate myself to move on.

My hard times make me stronger and help me to face the world.

      Thank you Regina.

I think the first thing you would eat should be Kolo Mee when you touch down!

      Always Kolo Mee!
